About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word which means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every musical style.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back is a failure, but they rebound with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name throughout the globe.
After a hiatus of a few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It is a departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name a different producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and gives the band much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Musicians
Toto is a rock group from the United States that enjoyed their greatest success in the 1980s. The band was founded by session musicians with experience and has sold more than 40 million albums around the world.
The first toto album was the self-titled Toto, released in 1978. The album was a huge hit and catapulted toto into international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 more albums, all of which have also been hits.
Toto composed their first and sole film score in 1984 for the film Dune. This was a major undertaking that required the entire group to be involved. Kingdom of Desire was another hit album. After a world-tour, Bobby Kimball quit the band. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen from Le Roux. The band continued their journey with their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album had a host of songs that were hits, including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto went on a hiatus. This gave every member of the group the chance to pursue their own solo projects. In 1996, the band was reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time the original members took to the stage together in over a decade.
The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and
안전놀이터 추천 his All Starr Band. This was the final time that all the original members of Toto were on stage together. The band broke up again following this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto has remained one of the most adored rock bands for over three decades, releasing massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum hit, "Africa." The group's anthemic, arena-rock style is influenced by a variety of styles, including progressive rock, world rhythms, jazz, and soul.
Despite their fame The group faced a few challenges in their final years. In 2002 keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck took over, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a string of lineup changes as well as a series of disappointing albums led Toto to end their tour for a period of time. Toto returned to touring in 2012 following the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return to their best form, and the tour that went with it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was made more exciting by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had joined the band.
Toto's music remains as relevant today as it was back in the 1970s and 1980s and is growing in popularity with every new generation. Their success has made them a constant part of pop culture and their live shows are always full of energy and excitement.
